Is Regeneron STS Research Report Badge any good for HYPSM?

Hello all,

I recently entered the Regeneron Science Talent Search competition and only received the Research Report Badge. (I did not receive the Student Initiative Badge or make it to Semifinalist.)

Is it worth emailing the admissions officers at HYPSM schools where I have applied RD to update them and tell them that I have won this award? Or is this award not significant enough to tell them about it?

I’m asking because when I was visiting Yale, the admissions officer during the info session said that we can email them with updates after our application has been submitted, but if our update is something like National Merit Semifinalist, it’s "great, but the majority of our applicant pool has that award… :confused: "

So, if this award is not significant, I would not want to email the admissions officers that I won this Research Report Badge, just as I wouldn’t email them about National Merit Semifinalist. However, if it is significant, of course I would like to update them and boost my applications.

Should I update them on this award?

It’s a recognition of your work, around ~17% of applicants receive that award, so I think it wouldn’t hurt to update your application with it.

I’d disagree. It’s too minor to update a very busy admissions officer with. You should be proud of your badge, but I honestly don’t think it’s worth typing up a whole email over.
