Is skipping a grade meaningful? Do admissions offices even notice?

D skipped 4th grade. She has 36 ACT and 4.75 weighted GPA with 11 APs. Does the fact that she skipped a grade matter? Will admissions office notice because of her birthday or do they not care? Not sure if helpful to point out or not.

No. AOs don’t care about “achievements” from elementary school. Her HS stats are great; congrats to her.

Don’t

I doubt it would make any difference. I skipped third grade and never mentioned it. I entered college at 16. I never sensed anyone cared.

Your daughter’s scores and grades speak for themselves. Congrats on her accomplishments and best of luck in college admissions!

Thank you both.

It will probably not help - it can potentially even hurt if she is VERY young to be an entering freshman. Although they may not admit it, minors on campus are a bit of a headache for college officials. I worked in a student affairs role as a student employee, and it is a bigger deal if a minor (under 18) gets caught with alcohol/drugs or is a survivor of sexual misconduct. Also, very young students may have a tougher time adjusting due to maturity levels/stigma (this can vary a lot based on the individual, however). Just my observations/opinion.

Your skipping a grade in elementary won’t matter at all. But when grade skipping or otherwise younger age is noticed, it can only have a negative impact that may require additional assurance to the schools that the younger age won’t be a liability.
