I attend a local state university in town, and I am thinking about applying to Smith as a sophomore transfer. I have been thinking about doing so ever since the end of my senior year, but I was also open to the idea of staying at my current university depending on how it is. So far, I do not hate it, but I do not believe that I would be happy in the long term. I always liked the idea of attending a women’s college and having an liberal arts education.
I am aiming for a 4.0 this semester( which seems somewhat manageable so far) but my high school gpa is only around 3.6 weighted, and have fairly solid ECs. I would also not be sending my test scores since it is optional and I do not really have any good scores.
I’m a bit concerned because I go to a non competitive university with almost guaranteed admissions to local students, so that might hurt my chances. Do you think that it is plausible to give it a try? I am also thinking about Mount Holyoke as well.
I’m in the same situation actually. I applied to Smith as a first year and was rejected, but also my senior year was very simple but I got good grades in the challenging courses I took so I hope they see I handle college well. Mount Holyoke is why I decided to go to a state school and try to transfer since I really only really liked Smith and one other school that I applied too.
Hi!! I think Mount Holyoke is absolutely gorgeous and I would love to attend there as well but I’m just worried about their financial aid and the fact that they are need-aware. I seriously doubt I’m going to get accepted to either schools in the first place so I don’t even know why I’m worried about the financial stuff lol
Smith doesn’t charge an application fee so it’s worth a try!
I worry about that as well! I’ll be applying for a ton of scholarships before/during winter break. From what I’ve been told the most important thing is to not only get grades but show your commitment to the ECs you have. Quality is better than quantity is what I heard at information sessions. Have you considered larger schools as well? I would prefer a smaller school like MoHo or Smith but also understand there aren’t a lot of spots for transfer so unless you want to stay at your school apply to a few larger ones to be safe : )
I agree I really prefer smaller schools than bigger schools but just like you said, I should really consider applying to larger schools just to cast a wider net. Anyways, I think I made up my mind…thanks for the replies and fingers crossed for both of us and others applying!
