Hi! I’ve heard about something called Key Club, a large community service organization with divisions across different areas and a club in many high schools. My school doesn’t have one yet, and I was thinking of starting one. Can someone explain to me exactly what it is and how to join a division/chapter in my area? (I myself have done lots of community service, and I wanted to start a club to promote it). Also, how does it work? Like how do you find events/things to volunteer for/at? Is starting/managing Key Club a lot of work/worth it?
this probably has a lot of information https://www.keyclub.org which is a Kiwanas program to get you started.
Founding a club is generally no tip. Look, you’re a rising soph. You have miles to go and should learn what does matter, get a Fiske Guide to Colleges, take rigorous courses (know what that means,) do well, and develop interests, a life. You have 2.5 years to go. Talk to your GC, don’t just ask random questions and worry.
Another thing you could do is just start a “Service Club” in your HS. It doesn’t have to be as formal as Key Club. Talk to your GC about how to get an advisor or start a club and start finding students that would be interested in participating.
For service, great as finding your own service to commit to. So many clubs just dart in and out, they pick activities that just get parricipants and hours. You want to roll up your sleeves and dig in, get some stretch. Make it something of value, for people, locally.
@lookingforward like focusing one one place to volunteer at and commit many hours there, correct?
