I'm at a community college right now, so I won't be transferring to a school that has study abroad until I'm a junior. I would really love to do it but I've heard that most people do study abroad during their sophomore year at a school. Did I miss my opportunity? Any input appreciated. God bless.

bump bump

Keep in mind that many schools don’t allow students to study abroad during their first or last semesters at that school. As for studying abroad as a junior or senior, junior year is the “traditional” year to study abroad, though one can study abroad at any time provided that their school approves the study abroad program.

ok then. thank you for answering.

It is NEVER too late. I know many Juniors and SENIORS who are either currently studying abroad or have in the past.

You might ask at the schools you intend to transfer to, though. Many transfer students at my school can’t go abroad because they already have too many “off-campus” credits.

No, it is not too late to study abroad. I studied abroad during the Fall Semester of my senior year, and loved it! Of the five students that went from my school, 3 were seniors, 1 was a junior, and 1 was a sophomore. As long as you know you want to study abroad, you can plan for it so it doesn’t affect your graduation date. My school (Michigan State) has a rule that at least 20 of your last 30 credits have to be taken on campus unless you get prior approval from your college dean.

If studying abroad is really important to you, look into the study abroad programs at the schools you are interested in and see what their policies are before you commit to that school.
