Is Swarthmore artsy compared to other liberal arts schools?

There also appears to be a pretty solid indie rock scene at Swarthmore. The radio station is vibrant. There are regular shows at Olde Club. Worthstock is a great tradition. And there seems to be a cohort of students who take advantage of the music scene in Philly.

Of course, the indie rock scene would have to go some to top the Duane Allman and the Allman Brothers playing the Swat amphitheater in May 1970.

Oh, I don't know - Bruce Springsteen in April of 1974?

Swarthmore College’s intimate Scott Amphitheater, site of Springsteen & the ESB’s April 28, 1974 concert. Without doubt the most beautiful, magical location Bruce and the band have ever performed./quote

Oooh. I didn't know the Boss played there, too. It's funny. The historybook from the 80's just shows Shakespeare.

I saw Bruce and the E Street Band at Scott Amphitheater. It was a great show. There are pictures of the show in my Halcyon.

Swat is "fashionably" artsy. Its campus is one of the most beautiful anywhere.

bpkap,
My S is an '07 graduate. His major was in the social sciences. He took several semesters of music theory and was very involved in a cappella, the musical director for one of the groups. We saw a couple of the theater productions during Parents' Weekends and were very impressed with the level.

That's probably a good description of the vibe. There does appear to be a fairly strong "hipster" cohort.

Swarthmore students do go to museums and theater performances for fun. However, I think it would be misleading to say that Swarthmore is heavily tilted towards the arts.

Soo what are the top artsy liberal arts school? Williams?

I nominate Oberlin, Sarah Lawrence, Vassar, Bard and Barnard as the most "artsy."
