Is taking 6 classes in one semester doable?

Hi all,

This is my schedule for fall of 2018:
Engineering class
Calculus 3
English
Engineering class
Chemistry (NO LAB)
and a online history class

And I will be working part time.

Is this a doable class schedule?

Probably not doable if you are concerned with maintaining or earning a high GPA, but your college advisor should be consulted.

I agree with the above. 2 Engineering classes, chem, and calc are enough to turn anyone’s hair grey, nevermind the other two classes and a part time job. Why? If you want a decent GPA, something has to give.

@Lindagaf @Publisher Thank you for the responses. The reason I want the take as many classes I can is because I want to graduate in 2020 with my class, I have two more years I cannot afford to stay a 3rd. I am a transfer student and I am behind if I want to graduate on time I have to take the max units I can each semester. But I will probably drop the history class and focus on the 5 I have.

and Decent GPA is more important than graduating with your class.

Are you able to take a community college course, for transfer credit, as maybe a short winter session class or over the summer?

Is fall 2018 your first time taking classes in a four year university?

If not, did you transfer “up” in terms of rigor and or depth?

I would not recommend 6 classes to anyone unless they’re comfortable with the university workload at a particular institution.

How many credits is each course, for a total of how many credits?

It may be doable if none of the classes has a lab or a large term project. But maybe less so if you also have significant part time work obligation. And if there are labs or large term projects, the amount of time needed may become very large.
