Is taking regular level Foreign Language classes worth it?

Ok, so I was thinking about taking a regular level, first year foreign language class online (that they don’t have in my school) because I’m really interested in languages, and I enjoy learning them. However, it will definitely bring down my weighted GPA (I have a 4.8 now, it should be about a 5.0-5.1 by the end of the year, depending on my math grade lol).

So I really want to take the class online out of interest. Will colleges prefer that I took another language (I’m going into my 5th year of spanish next year) since languages are considered a core class to them, or will they look down upon the fact that my weighted GPA will be about 0.1 points lower (and my class rank will probably go from #3 to #10ish)?

They’ll prefer the language.

It’s not a horse race. The person with the highest GPA does not win! Take the courses you feel will help you develop into the adult you want to be or the courses you are interested in.

@lostaccount @awesomepolyglot Ok, thanks for the advice! I think I will take it  Tbh, the only reason I had doubts was because I had friends telling me it was a bad idea… But you’re right, languages are a great skill to have, and I’m interested in them, so it’s worth it!
