Is the ALEKS still necessary if we don't plan to enroll in a math class?

Is the ALEKS exam necessary if one does not plan to enroll in a math class at UT Austin?

Some background: I have taken Calculus 1, 2, 3, and Linear Algebra/Vector Geometry at a local university during high school. I am not planning on taking any more math classes as the credit should satisfy the math requirements.

Does not taking the ALEKS exam make you ineligible to register for classes during orientation? Or could I get by without taking the exam especially if I am not planning on taking any math classes at UT.

Thanks.

Has anyone not taken the ALEKS assessment while enrolled in CNS or Cockrell?

OP: No.

3lite: I’m not CNS or Engineering so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I’m pretty sure you have to take it for both of those colleges. Even the prerequisites (calc, physics, etc) require that you get a certain score on the ALEKS. I don’t -think- you have to take it before you register for classes, but if you haven’t taken it by the time class gets started, you’ll get dropped.

edit: oh, you’re both the same person :P

Yeah I was wondering the exact same thing. I took the AP Calculus BC exam this year and feel like I did well enough to get a 4 or 5 on it. If that’s enough to satisfy the math requisites for my major, then I won’t take any math classes, and if it doesn’t satisfy it, I’ll just take a higher Calc class. So why the hell are they telling me I have to take a dumb ALEKS test on freaking Algebra and Geometry!?!?

So…I take it we still need to take the ALEKS even if we have AP Calculus credit?
