Is the "big envelope" acceptance letter theory true?

I've gotten 2 acceptances so far: One was in a big 8x11 envelope with a bunch of other papers. The other was in a standard envelope, but with a bunch of folded papers. But big almost always=acceptance.

A big envelope with denial inside is harsh.

But then again I wouldn't want it to be uniform- because when you get a small envelope you always want some hope.

most of my acceptances came in big envelope except URI which had 2 sheets of paper in them, and another one which had about 7-10 pgs folded and stuffed into small envelope.

One of my acceptances came in a thin envelope; it was even the same size as my deferral envelopes.

From what I've had so far, I don't think this myth is always true...

Brown - deferred, small envelope
Hope College - accepted, small envelope
Earlham College - accepted, small envelope
McGill - found out online via e-mail

I don't see why a rejection letter would need to be a huge package, but small isn't always a rejection.

I think every college should send out something small. Save paper.

Yea. I've had friends telling me that some acceptance letters come in small envelopes. But I wasn't sure. Like, I know, Cornell has a small one. And I totally agree with the ^^ opinion on saving paper.

Last year, my heart just sank when I went to the mailbox and saw a small envelope from my ds' number one choice. I hated to hand it to him. Imagine our surprise when that small envelope contained a letter that not only accepted him but offered him a full ride scholarship!!

Open the envelope before you get dejected!

Temple acceptance=Big. It contains like a folder with a letter and a bunch of other info. I got one today =D

My Rejections all came in small envelopes

my only acceptance came in a big one.

Lame eh?

not really,

like someone said.

tufts sent the fatest collection of catelogues and application forms.

mcgill sends 1-2 sheet acceptance letters.

cept that i think is a precursor to fatter envelopes to come.

dont stress about the thickness. u'll prob find out by e-mail long before.

i live in china and if colleges dont inform me by email, i find out like two weeks later. so i stick w/ online systems and so the envelope crisis is kind of irrelevant.

uchicago's was phat

does anyone know how UNC-Chapel is?

There's really no way of telling. A big envelope usually always means an acceptance though. I haven't received a rejection yet (the last three I have to hear from are my hardest ones yet) but I have had all types of envelopes come with my acceptances. Heres a break down:

CSU Monterey and CSU Northridge-Big envelopes
Tulane-Big Envelope
NYU-Big Envelope
Ithaca-Small envelope, then a Big Envelope
University of Missouri-They only sent a small envelope

So as you can see, it differs. Good luck!
