Is the CalculusAP course important?

I self studied for the calculus BC exam last year, and I got a 5, so I was hoping I didn't need to take calculus in school for my senior year. My school, being relatively small, only offers AP calculus AB instead of BC.
However, would it be better if I took the course in school, so the fact that I actually took an AP class will appear on my transcript? Of course, if the AP scores are enough to make a point, I'd happily drop the subject.
Also, I was wondering just how important calculus is in university. I cram-studied for the AP exam, and now I can hardly remember any of the formulas. So I thought taking calculus AP, even if it was AB, would help me revise for university.
I'd be very thankful for any advice!
