Is the difference between a 4.0 and a 3.99 worth considering?

I think pretty much everyone commented on this thread to have his/her shot at saying "This thread can't be serious."

^Exactly

You might even have a better shot with a 3.99 because there is the slightest tendency that you look less obsessed with your grades and more human.

The lot of you make me puke.

^^Dave, please stop spouting absolute crap. Adcoms will never look down on an applicant who does well in anything, especially in comparison to an inferior candidate in whatever respect is being considered (in this case, GPA). What a load of complete bull.

3.99 will destroy your chances at anything, and everything--
no college for you. :P

naw, but i think you'll be fine. 4.0 always has the style points because it
doesn't necessarily show how high you can go, but 3.99 does show that you
have an upper limit.

Little CC birds told me rank is what matters and no one cares about your GPA.

^The importance of rank depends on the rank of the school from which you come.

IOW, your conclusion is tentative at best.

^True; both must be considered in tandem with course rigor.
