Is the harsh SAT curve here to stay?

@am9799 I agree with that analysis. S19 was always more likely to miss an easy question (and it was usually some data analysis question - our school just doesn’t cover stats at all!). D21 will be more typical and miss harder questions. She also seems to have trouble with multiple choice tests in general. She gets distracted by all of the options, especially on non-math tests. Has a hard time narrowing down answers. She took APEuro this year and got a little better at those types of MC questions but says she’s always down to two answers and then chooses the wrong one. Many times she will choose an answer and then talk herself out of it and then change her answer to the wrong one! She needs to go with her gut. And she needs to practice this summer.

This is just crazy. The kids are already discussing on line all the SAT questions per different form. This invites cheating to a whole new level for everyone. My only hope is that CB changed their system and those forms are one and done and none of them will be repeated like they did last year.

Yikes. I wonder if kids have always done that? It’s a giant no no though. I think they sign something before the test saying they won’t discuss.

This is the same as in the past, just that this time the discussions are more organized. Most of those discussions only have a handful of posters. My guess is that there are far too many different test forms and too little discussion for those to present significant cheating value. I’d also guess that there are many more test forms that just aren’t among those that forums’ posters have taken.

Leaks of a different nature, such as a whole test the night before in certain foreign countries, is my bet for the most significant cheating threat.

The test forms with the most discussion (it looks like there are two, with the same passages – which is kind of interesting) are not likely to be used for a majority of test takers for a future date.

@homerdog you bring up a good point about the harsher “curve” on the more recent SATs. D20 is considering switching to SAT as she “only” has a 32 ACT but my concern is that she might be better off retaking the ACT a third time instead of now switching to SAT for an August test. Likely will only take it once before filling out fall applications.
