Is the Honors Program worth it? UCI vs UCLA

I got into the UC Irvine honors program as well UCLA for computer science. I'm having a difficult time choosing between the two because there are different things I like about each of them. :(

UC Irvine:
PROS
- Honors Program: the priority scheduling would really help out since I know UCs are impacted right now, and the other honors benefits sound pretty good like the special housing and classes
- Irvine also has other majors I could possibly switch to if I dont end up liking comp sci

CONS
- not much of a social scene, or so I've heard
- people have said its mainly a commuter school, so another reason there wouldnt be much to do there :/

UCLA:
PROS
-prestige :P I know it's not really a good reason, but nonetheless
-Social scene and the LA area overall

CONS
-more competitive? (academic wise)
- harder to get the classes I want or choose majors

I'm going to visit the schools (hopefully) in April to get a better feel of both. But I still have no idea where to go! Anyone have any ideas? And which school would be better for my major, or have better job opportunities for my major?

Thanks! (=

To be honest, I feel like the portion of UCI’s student body that commutes is greatly exaggerated. I would say that the vast majority of students live on or across from campus.

In fact, i’d be willing to bet that the actual percent of undergrads commuting is the same or only slightly lower at UCLA.

I heard that 70% of students at UCI live on campus. However, the vast majority of these students live in VDC, VDC Norte, or AV, which is away from the main campus and the the shuttle to get to class. Therefore, the campus may seem dead since these students live away from Ring Road.

if you want to the social scene, you can find it. people party some at uci, you just have to find it. if you move the balboa peninsula, there shouldnt be much stopping you from partying.

honestly, you sound like you’re looking for an excuse to pick ucla, so pick ucla =]
