I am applying to Penn early decision with triple legacy. My family makes around $120,000 a year. Nothing extremely low, but my mom just started a business and I have three siblings that all plan on going to college (one of which is already in). Penn says they have a need-blind policy for non-internationals. How valid are their claims? Can applying for financial aid affect my chances in admission?

For some reason, this question is one that I seem to hear a lot about Penn, but to the best of my knowledge, the answer is no. The only reason that I can think of why a college would not be need-blind is because they didn’t have that much money to give out to students with financial need. Since Penn has an endowment greater than $5 billion, this probably isn’t an issue. Finally, it would be a public relations nightmare if they were caught lying about something like that, and I don’t think they would take such a big chance for something that would ultimately be of little gain.
