Is the Pogue Scholarship only for racial minorities?

Is the Pogue Scholarship at UNC only supposed to be for racial minorities? It says it supports students who work for the cause of diversity, so I was wondering if this means it is intended for racial minorities.

No, it’s open to anybody. It’s true that most people who show “commitment to diversity issues, and engagement in matters of inclusion” (from their webpage) as high school students are minorities, some being racial minorities, some being LGBTQ, and others are ethnic/religious minorities, etc.

However, anybody, no matter who they are, who has that commitment, and has the activities which show this commitment, will likely be considered.

You can Google “North Carolina” and “Pogue Scholar”, and see some people who got that scholarship. You’ll see that a number of them are not racial minorities. However, they all had pretty extensive activities related to increasing diversity and inclusiveness.
