Is the "real" college experience worth its price tag?

I am in second semester at a NJ CC and the fact that i'm "missing" the college experience has been killing me all along my time at CC. I feel like it is something that is going to help me mature as an individual, and give me the chance to explore my career options. So, yeah it's basically something I WANT TO DO. Them, I am considering to transfer to Rutgers during fall, but it'll cost 15k more a year than CC. Then, do you think that the dorm college experience is worth all that money? (by the way, I don't have any money, so whatever i'm doing is through sucking up debts.)

You only live once - I’d say do it if you believe it’s right.

HOWEVER don’t allow yourself to get so much debt. Work during the school year, work during the summer, and maybe take a semester off to work full-time and save money. That way you won’t get totally destroyed by high-interest student loans -it’s very doable, will keep you grounded in the realities of life and will allow you to graduate with a much smaller debt load (even if not completely debt free).

As someone who lived the “dorm” college experience at a large public and someone who’s currently doing the CC thing for $$ reasons, I will tell you definitively that going into debt just to have the “college experience” is ■■■■■■■■.

It’s overrated. You will not mature as a result.

I may be the exception, but I’m a pretty mature guy to begin with. I had just as much freedom my last year of high school as I did my freshman year away at university. Sure, it’s easier to party when you’re away, but that’s about it. If you’re the kind of guy who wants to live with people just for the sake of the experience, then you probably shouldn’t take my advice, because I believe that that is ****ing stupid. I felt like I became less mature as a result of my time away at school.

 1. Can you do laundry?
 2. Can you walk to a dining hall?
 3. Are you not ■■■■■■■■ and able to manage time half-way effectively without mommy or daddy?

If you can answer yes to all 3 of those questions, then you will not learn anything of use by having the “college experience”. Stay at CC, go away for your last 2 years if you want a 4 year degree. There’ll be enough debt to go around.

I haven’t lived on campus at my university, and occasionally I feel as if I’ve missed something. However, you still get to experience a lot of the “college life” without living on campus. Personally, I think it was worth saving the extra money to not live on campus.
