Is the Rhetoric program better than the English one? If yes, why?

I am transferring to Cal this fall and since I am coming in as undeclared, I was wondering if dabbling on Rhetoric and considering it as my major would be good or beneficial. What do you guys think?

I checked both programs and I'm aware that Cal has the top English program. I also checked their Rhetoric program and was amazed by it.

Not sure what you mean by “better”. In terms of prestige, they’re both top, top programs so they’re essentially equal. If you’re talking about which is easier to find a job after graduation, Rhetoric has the edge (29% vs. 42% unemployment rate following graduation). In the end, you should choose majors based on what you enjoy, not what program is “better”. I’ve heard great things about both programs; my uncle was even has a PhD in rhetoric from Berkeley and he absolutely loved it.

Who needs Rhetorical questions?
