I hope not either… SATs are the only things I can do well on without studying for it XD Then again people always say the SAT is losing its importance (and it has, but that’s only comparing it to like when it was first introduced when it hovered over your college decisions like a rainy day)

I think the ACT should take the SAT’s place :D

^And in some parts of the country, it has always been more important than the SAT. Just depends on where you live.

ACT sucks. I randomly guessed on half the science section. I have no idea how I got my score.

SATs (or ACTs if you’re into that) are just another method of a college understanding you as a student. a high score is usually an indication that you can study well, think analytically, and work under pressure. they contribute just as essays, recommendations, and grades do.

karma helps too.

For most privates, the SAT is simply a ‘on the edge’ factor.

So if two students are neck in neck for the same spot, they use the SAT to figure out which one gets the spot.

It is to some degree. There’s a growing emphasis on the subject tests, which aren’t as “coachable.”

The SAT really is necessary though. There’s far too much grade inflation in this country (e.g. one class got extra credit depending on how correct their March Madness bracket was), and a 4.0 at some schools is nothing close to a 4.0 at others.

Ya but its good that its dying off. The reason why was it was started as a fair test and has now become a pusher for the rich and killer for poorer students. Lets look Im middle class white which isnt a good position to be in and I cant afford the 250 dollars, or in my school the 450 dollars sure I can study by myself however, if I have a question I cant ask any human for help. Mean while Johnny Rich who drives his mustang can afford to not only pay the school for the course but also a private tutor. In no aspect is this fair, thats the main reason the SAT s were changed in the first place the got rid of word matching because some sports like polo were discriminatory to the lower class. 75% of White males answered right only 25% black males so they changed it. I fail to see the importance because how can a 3.5 hour test tell me if im ready for collage my grades reflect me not some test that supposedly will screw my choice in collages over. So in reality its a good thing SAT s are losing steam I would wish them gone even if I scored a perfect score thats my friends is the truth.

Solution: don’t study.

That’s what this white middle class guy did.

First and far most, superscoring will probably save my life.

However, I think it is bull. If the SAT is suppose to show your testing ability, then it should show how you do in a testing session. Not how you do in different sections from different tests. It just comes to show, in my opinion, that the sat is indeed an “achievement test.”

I sure do hope it is losing it’s importance. However, I do think it does show colleges how well students did in school and how well a schools education program is.

A 500 in math at my school is a 70th percentile. It shows that the math programs at my school fail. (also state tests prove it too. 30% of students failed the state math exam this year =\ it was pathetic [god, state tests are the easiest thing too…]). I’m sure high schools of the same caliber with better math programs have a higher percentile on the SAT…

The studies show that SAT prep classes don’t really make a difference. Classes or tutors don’t really do much besides give you the same hints you can get in prep books, and/or motivate you… but most kids can afford prep books, or get them at the library.

It’s still 100x more objective than GPA or even rank will ever be. There are one or two factors that skew SAT–uncountable for GPA, really
