Is the SAT losing its importance?

I read recently in an article, that the SAT, for some schools was loosing its importance in the admissions descision.

Yeah, it is

Well some schools are eliminating it or opening up other options, yes.

I hope to God it is. Wake Forest doesn’t require it anymore, and I’m hoping a lot more schools are going to follow suit. I feel the SAT, at least for me, doesn’t reflect any level of my intelligence of capabilities in college.

It’s still the number one factor for most large public schools due to the fact that its a ratings boost.

The SAT may be “loosing” its importance, Grantl345, but grammar isn’t.

he spelled it right in the title… odd

It gains importance as your individual score increases, and loses importance as your individual score decreases. Direct relationship.

^ Exactly lol.

Are you saying people play down the importance of the SAT if they got a low score? No, that couldn’t be.

Take the ACT.

I hope not since I’m banking on it countering my sub par GPA…

i like the SAT :D

yup. if ya get a low score on it, of course ya gonna say “nah, they don’ matter none!”
i say, if you get a low score, suck it up, and accept yo fate
i mean, come on, this is the only objective thing out there to help adcoms…

Bummer, isn’t it?

I think (and I have a high score, even by CC standards) that for really selective schools the SAT is more like “okay, you’re in the running” because most applicants have those scores anyway. But at The O(hio)SU and other frigging gigantic state schools, it matters a lot.

Unfortunately, I think that the only standardized way of comparing the applicants across the county is, in fact, becoming less important as prep classes and urm love are ruining it for everyone.

I think that the SAT should remain important. It really helps students like me who go to non-competitive high schools where having a high GPA doesn’t mean too much. If admissions was based on transcript alone, I wouldn’t have much of a chance because the way my school is makes it difficult for me to show my academic potential. The SAT shows admissions people that I can compete on a national level, which my grades alone could never do.

sg12: I’m really annoyed by AA as well. Focus on actual economic disparities, rather than discriminating based on the color of a person’s skin. That’s inconsequential… only the current financial status and the past upbringing matter.

I sure hope not! I’m depending on it to get into a decent college. Junior year hasn’t been doing me any favors.
