I’ve been accepted to the University of Delaware and am strongly considering going there. However, college confidential claims it to be a party school. Is this true? I’m not that kind of person and always got the impression that the students weren’t so… I don’t know how to describe it. Crazy?
Any input is greatly appreciated!
Most UD students are very serious about their studies. Sure partying is available if you want it but there are so many other activities available that don’t involve partying that you can easily fill up all your “free time” with them if you seek them out. You certainly won’t be perceived as an “oddball” if you are not involved or minimize your “partying”. Its a matter of self-discipline and prioritizing what you are at college for. Even if you study hard you can still responsibly fit in a little bit of “partying” if you wish. I suspect a good number of UD students fall into this last category. You won’t last long at UD if you center your college life around partying. It probably is no different at any other college of similar size. Best wishes to you.
Thanks for your input! I ask because I’m really not into the whole party scene, so it’s good to hear that you believe that most students aren’t just there to party.
as a mom of two very different kids at UD I can tell you the thing that makes UD great is their combination of great student events… both party based and non party based and amazing academics… If you want it they have it! I have to admit I’ve seen some party pictures and thought to myself… “how cool… I wish I could be there” lol… But if it’s not your scene there are soooo many other amazing interests to persue and events to attend. They really have it all. My D is not a party girl at all… My S… trying to get him out of the party is my challenge… both study hard and know when to dial it back… you will love it.
My daughter struggled with the same question three years ago and was disappointed when the Honors dorm emptied out on the first Friday night as her fellow students went out to celebrate their freedom. As the semester progressed, more and more of her dorm mates were skipping the weekend parties and hanging with friends or participating in club activities. She found her non-partying crowd and is very happy.
I had to laugh yesterday when my daughter laid out her spring break plans - she and two friends want to take a road trip to the midwest to check out grad schools.
Based on the penalties issued to my daughter’s freshman roommate, I will say that the university does not condone partying ‘on campus’ where they have enforcement control. There is definitely partying going on in the neighborhoods surrounding campus, but it is not the overriding theme of UD.
When did you apply that you already got accepted? My daughter is still waiting.
I applied a few days before the deadline, January 15th.
My daughter applied 3rd week in October and we haven’t heard anything yet.
