Is there a list of Best Engineering Schools?

I've been looking around, and usnews has U of I and Berkeley tied at #1, followed by Stanford. But those either don't match me or are too hard to get into, is there a resource online (or you guy can give advice) because how do you know how good a college is at something?

Thanks guys

If you buy the US News issue with the rankings, they go much deeper than that. There's also an online edition I think. There's always the CC community which is probably one of the best resources I've encountered.

Ya I did see another topic with the ranks, very helpful.. but I think I'll still check out the book, it'd be at a bookstore right?

It's a magazine, and they do an annual edition of college rankings of all times. It'd be available at any newsstand.

2007 ranking: 1) Mit 2) Stanford, UC Berkely 4) UIUC, Caltech 6)Georgia Tech, U Mich 8) Carnegie Mellon, Purdue 10) Cornell

iwotic, perhaps you should also post the other rankings for schools who only offer a BS.

http://www.engineering-colleges.info/

I was given this website recently by my career center specialist at my school. It has helped me out tremendously.

hmm oh okay here u go: 1) Harvey Mudd College , Rose Human 3) Cooper Union, United states military academy, United states Naval Academy 6) Cal Poly- San Louis Obispo 7) Bucknell University, United Sates Air Force Acad. 9) Embry Riddle, Milwauke School of Engineering, Villanova

hehe thanks man ..

Southern Cal is ranked 31 undergrad, but 9 grad?

unfortunately, that leaves olin and harvey mudd out of the picture...even though they are perhaps some of the best programs.

i would like to see hmc change its college status. as of right now, we are a "liberal arts college"... and even though we are really a math/science/engineering school with the flavor of liberal arts, it makes little sense to be in this category and not ranked with berkeley, stanford, caltech, and mit. albeit, somehow, we are like #14 (?) as a LAC. who would have thought..

so, what do you think? LAC or engineering school?... or something different?

also it's important to realize that undergrad US News Engineering rankings are based on one factor ONLY:

The U.S. News rankings of undergraduate engineering programs are based solely on the judgments of deans and senior faculty

"also it's important to realize that undergrad US News Engineering rankings are based on one factor ONLY:

The U.S. News rankings of undergraduate engineering programs are based solely on the judgments of deans and senior faculty"

It's also important to realize that, regardless of whether or not these rankings reflect the actual quality of the education at each school, employers WILL be looking at these rankings, and making decisions about who to hire based on them. And, honestly, when you go to college, you're trying to maximize your salary in a field that you enjoy, and going to a higher ranking school will help you do that.

right. so go to hmc because our alums make the most money ;-)
