Is there a major difference between applying to Viterbi or to Dornsife

I have applied to all of my other choices as a chemistry major but I want to explore engineering in college just to see if it could work for me. The chemical engineering (nanotechnology) curriculum seems perfect for me and I would love to apply for it, however I am worried that it might be significantly more competitive in terms of admissions. USC is already a bit of a reach, so I'd rather not raise my risk of getting rejected when I've never seriously considered engineering until recently. Either way I expect that I'll have to work incredibly hard.

I can throw in some of my stats if that would help. The relevant parts are probably that I have an internship in an analytical chemistry lab and that I took a 2 unit summer course in nanotechnology at UCLA.

Apply chemical engineering as first choice major and chemistry as second choice major. If Viterbi doesn’t accept you Dornsife will automatically consider you (and this is true even if you didn’t choose a second choice major).

Oh thank you very much! I had seen people say that but I wasn’t sure if it was true between schools within USC.
