Is there a possibility for me to go to these with my crappy scores??

I wanna go to a good university in the US, But my scores suck.
I know there's no chance for me to go to
NYU
UCLA
Harvard (Not that I want to, I just put it there becasue I like to write it.)

anyway, I got 1830 (1250) on the SAT (After my 6th try) and I have reason to believe (from what I read on these forums) that there is no way in hell that a decent university would accept me.

I'll be a senior in September, is it too late to apply? and should I even bother?

Umm...maybe you'd have a shot at UCLA. Harvard..you can count yourself out there. it's definitely not too late to apply anywhere. it's too early. application deadlines are in january, usually.

but everyone says that taking the SAT more than 3 times is pushing it. That would probably hurt my chances, right? plus. 1830 is kinda low.

yeah thats true. here people take the SAT like 3 times max. if you take it 6 times it looks like you're overly focused.

Well look for schools a bit lower on the rankings ones where you fall into the 25/75 range, I think the number of times you take the SAT will hurt you less than being an international student.

I saw somewhere that your school recomeneded you to take the SAT 10 times during your junior and senior year, right? Why don't you just write them a note explaining why you took the SAT so many times?

And there are a lot of schools that would like to have someone with a 1830. Well, it's harder for internationals (I think), but it's shouldn't be hard to find a college in the US. It's just that these colleges aren't the type that people on CC talk about that often.

And 1830 isn't low at all. It's above the average of 1500.

yeah, most schools here recomend taking it that many times and nearly all students here do.
I had no idea 1830 was not bad. I got that impression when I read the "retake a 2390?" thread in the SAT prep forum.

Okay. it's not like..BAD...but in the realm of top colleges, it's a few hundred points below the norm for most applicants.

Is the ACT available where you are? I actually like the ACT much better than the SAT and only your best score gets sent. If you could send that instead of your SAT scores, I don't think colleges would know that you took the SAT six times. It might be worth looking into.

but, will i get decent fin aid if I'm ever accepted, i heard that it depends on scores (or is it on income?)

I have, the only test available is the SAT.

Some schools dont give any money to international applicants. And it depends on the school in terms of financial aid.

can anyone give me a link to an easy to use website with all the info about fin aid. I looked around before but never found anything. thanx

umm financial aid is based on income obviously.

i guess so, but i assumed that students with better scores had a better chance at getting the money. whatever

You might want to ask some of your questions in the International forum, since you'd be applying as an international, so what you do would be a little different.

Forget about the not taking it again....you need to take it again. Not taking it will be more of a detriment than just taking them for a 4th time.

STUDY, STUDY, STUDY for them. And get 2000+ and you're alright.

Or, maybe try taking the ACT. Is that available in the UAE or Egypt?

Take the ACT! If it's available anyways.. It can't hurt.

Also, tell your colleges (in the additional info section) that it was recommended you take the SATs 10 times. This will help explain..

Ok... a 1830 is bad for the top schools.

My advice: Take the ACT. Most colleges really don't care whether you give them an SAT or an ACT... everyone here says they do, but I think they're wrong. I go to an elite midwestern school, where everyone takes both, and submits whichever one is best. And people from my school are getting into Brown and Duke and Wash U and Northwestern in large numbers submitting JUST the ACT.

There's no harm in submitting just an ACT. But forget about most top schools with your SAT, and I'd forget about the SAT itself if I were you.
