USC and Illinois will be business while Michigan is liberal arts econ. I do like econ better than business but I’ve heard business (accounting/finance) will offer better opportunities. I was wondering if Michigan econ’s reputation is good enough to match UIUC and USC’s business schools. Thanks for the replies.

It also depends on where you want to end up working after completing your degree. USC business school is top for Southern Cal, however I’ve read or heard Econ or Math departments are not so great. I don’t know about the other 2 schools regarding business/econ.

Michigan ross is a bit better than UIUC business schools, although I believe they have very similar starting salaries. UIUC is best at accounting whereas UMICH has a great finance program. Michigan has a great econ program while UIUC’s is just decent (I’m actually in it if you want to ask any questions)

I’m from the East Coast. I’d rank USC and UMich about the same (and just have a personal preference for private schools, so I’d go with USC). UIUC is a step below.

It’s also important to know what employers would rank these schools. If possible, check out the career survey for each schools.

Yeah, I’d say that maybe for the humanities and social sciences UUIC might be a bit below USC + U Michigan, but for things like chemistry, physics, and all the other hard sciences, I’d say UUIC is on the same level (Or perhaps even slightly better) than the other two. It has a real tradition of excellence in the sciences.
