Hello, I am intersted in Hamilton College. However, I am a little concerned that by the time I am a sophomore there will be nothing to do at such a small remote school. Is there a town within walking distance with shops and restaurants? I understand the town of Hamilton is actually where collage is located so I was wondering if there is a town for Hamilton students. Thanks.
Meant where colgate is located
The town of Clinton is down the hill from the school, with restaurants, bars etc. It is walkable and there are shuttle busses. There are other larger towns, with more shopping and restaurant options, a short drive away, if you have access to a car. (PS Colgate is located in the town of Hamilton, which has nothing to do with Hamilton College – it sometimes confuses people)
New Hartford is about a 10 min drive away. Almost any big box store you would want is there. A small mall is also in New Hartford. There is a huge mall in Syracuse which is about an hour away. The shuttle does take you to New Hartford as well. The village in Clinton is small.
You would have the option of walking to the nearby shops and restaurants in Clinton. Or you could hop around the local area in the college-run shuttle. Within about a six mile radius, this would get you to suburban amenities such as a mall, a movie theatre, variety stores and a food market. For a small city with an excellent art museum (Thomas Cole’s et al), explore slightly farther into Utica.
