Is there a way I can take AP classes?

My school has very strict AP class reqs. that I don't fall into. Basically I did bad freshman year (well I did bad in 8th grade and that set me up to be in dumb classes as a freshman). However, last year I did great and I will be in honors this year and the next which I guess is better. However, I emailed a local community college and a local university about dual enrollment courses. I am VERY set on getting into a top school like Vanderbilt or U of Michigan you know. Anyway, that's that, now on to the question.

Are there schools which have NO reqs. for AP except basically a willingness to work hard? Could I take them at other schools? Basically, is there ANY WAY AT ALL I can take these classes?

Ask your counselors if you can take some at a local community college.

Apex Learning - 2008-2009 Course Catalog - High School - Advanced Placement

Unlike CTY, CTD, and similar programs, I don't think there are any requirements to sign up for these. Of course, you can also just study and sign up for the tests on your own, as many students who post here seem to do.

I would really rather not take an online course. Oh, and how would I go about studying and signing up? How do I do that? Help please!

You know, I typically don't reccomend what I'm about to but I know what you're going throgh (my school is similar and sometimes very hard to get into AP). Basically, if you ask enough the year before about it and discuss it with your GC, they will probably allow you to get in. If not, and again I never reccomend this, you can always get your parents involved. I think it's wrong when schools block kids from doing classes that they know they can succeed in. If you're absolutely convinced that you want to take an AP and you'll do well in it, then force them to put you in. I did that in my sophmore year and if I hadn't I'd be a typical student in my class taking 1 AP senior year.
