I'm asking because decisions come out in a few days and I have never received an email or a link to some kind of admissions portal. The only reason I know that NU has received my application is because I called them about another matter a long time ago. Since then, I've heard nothing. Is email going to be the way to go?

There's a few threads that discuss the method of delivery for decisions. The consensus seems to be that NU doesn't have an admissions portal, but notifies their applicants through either email or snail mail.

I just called them.
NU will notify students by both email and regular mail.
my only question is
do they send out emails all at once or on a rolling basis(in waves)?

Admissions will come at once. Northwestern does not do rolling admissions, so expect your decision on the same day as everyone elses. I'd tell you to expect it before the end of the month, possibly in a couple of days.

You'll be notified first via an email with a link to a copy of your decision letter. All emails will usually come in the same 5 minute time span, I'd start checking Wednesday.
