Okay, I guess anyone - not only limited to yang - is welcome to answer the question above. :)

I think for Cornell you have a good chance, At least from what ive heard and seen around the other threads. Definatly get thsoe SATs up, and definatly talk about your business. That is one of the things that stand out about your application.
please chance me when you have time: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/765601-chance-me-please-stanford-cornell-northwestern-mit-columbia.html

Hey, this all looks terrific to me. It sound like you have real talent in art and photography, as well as “leadership” in your field (I don’t know anyone who’s started a company!). I don’t know about HYPS, but I’d say you’re looking solid on all the rest of them.

So realization of the fact that I’m an Asian male from Southern California pretty much ruins my chances for HYPS dawned on me…how much harder is it really to get into those schools if you’re an ORM from my area? PLUS the fact that I’m going to a fairly large high school that’s extremely new and not established.

Chanced everyone who provided links back.

WOW, nice extracurricular and grades.
i think you have a great shot at both Brown and Cornell. if you apply early to any one of the two i would say you are definetly in.
by the way, i think you dad is right to not write about how much money you make on your company. its not just for finicial aid. i think you should write your essay on your entreprenuerial venture but don’t list any of the awards. just talk about your accomplishments on how and what your company does. make it short and sweet. you are definetly going to stand out from the other applicants.
by the way i think that your SATs and grades are fine as it is. i mean how much do you really think it would help if you raise it by 50 points? NOT MUCH! i talked to several admissions counselors and they say that about 1 to 5 kids every year go into a college with a established business like yours and mine. hope that helps!

You should get into the top UCs, but in this environment with budget cuts and lower enrollments, you need an absolute safety.

For the ivies, you are in one of the most competitive pools–Asian from CA. You have great rank, but average SATs for them currently which makes them all a reach.

In your place I would add a good private school not as selective as the ivies that meets full need–maybe Bowdoin, Colby, Bates, Grinnell, Colgate, Occidental…there are many more. These may be better choices than the UCs. As a low income student, they would probably be cheaper and certainly less financially taxed.

Thanks for the input hmom5… I’m trying to bump up that SAT score ASAP. I still have EXACTLY one year left for scores to count so I will try my best. Writing and critical reading are probably the sections I will need to improve on (I got 790 in Math) and for my junior year I will have a killer English teacher.

There’s always some stuff I can’t change, like where I live and my nationality. To be totally honest, I think I’m only considered “low income” because both my parents are retired, so my income technically is 0.

Wow…your stats are amazing imo especially with the SAT score. To be honest I think your good for Brown and Cornell, just make sure to keep your GPA up. And even if you did not take the SAT again I think you would be fine because of your extra curriculars.
