Ok so I'm an African American male that's a junior in high school. My unweighted g.p.a is a 3.75 which will go up I promise!! And a 4.5 weighted g.p.a (does Stanford take weighted?) my class rank is 16th out of 439 (96th percentile). I am on the beta club, national honor society, Spanish national honor society, black achievers, honor roll, young achievers, swim team, and have over 100 hours of volunteering. Is this good enough so far? If not what do I need to do?? It's my dream school!!

Your gpa is on the low side. SAT/ACT scores yet?

Your ECs aren’t particularly outstanding (unless you’re good enough to be recruited for swimming). 100 hours of volunteering isn’t that much either, and hundreds of people in honor societies apply to Stanford.

IMO to increase your chances:
- Increase your gpa
- Get good standardized test scores
- Improve your ECs

Right now, I’d say low chances of getting in. It’s a definite reach.

^Yes, statistically African American’s can often get in with lower test scores. To my knowledge colleges don’t release statistics on per race basis, but I would venture that 2000-2250 would be average compared to a 2250 average norm for all races.

I take my act in match but I’ve taken practice ones in my book and I average 31 32 ish

If you get a 31+ you’re in range for top schools. That’s around my ACT score and I got in. Comes down to ECs, recs, essays…

Just apply. Dont let these clowns tell you that just because you’re black you will get accepted anywhere you want. Work hard and then put your best foot forward.

I would apply if I were you. The race thing is a big hook. Good chances

Listen to doener though ^^ those are words of wisdom
