Is there any hope? Horrible grades

Your W’s mean NOTHING to the UCs
Get 100 more for all they care and it still means nothing

Make up your F’s in the same DISTRICT not necessarly the same CC. Otherwise if you take it in another CC it will not cancel out in your GPA when the CC calculates it.

I had one F in keyboarding … i took it over in another college of that district.

Same district only if your CCs provide one transcript when within that district.

For example in San Diego- there is Mesa College, Miramar College and City college- they all are in the same district and send 1 transcript out.

You will have to retake

Great Directors of Cinema
Elementary Astro
Intro to Humanaties

Freshman Comp- retake b/c you need
it for IGETC

Music Biz- doesnt appear to transfer

So, you have 3 F’s

As the only negative to your CC
career.

You will need to make the F’s
Get As and Bs

If you want to go to UCLA
You need to get mainly A’s
Sign TAP
Get a job or some sort of EC

You can also take extra units in
easy courses to boost your GPA
Which is ideal for you

Take like 5 units foreign language
courses of a lang you speak if you
speak another.

I was brought up speaking Spanish so that’s the best bet. Thank you all so much for the advice. I guess I hafta move back in with my parents in Orange County in May. Luckily, they support me 100 percent. This is an exciting time. =]

What’s TAP by the way?

transfer agreement program.

ASK about it!

it’s supposed to put you at the top of the list for transfer consideration, essentially (though not absolutely) guaranteeing your admission to college of letters and science. so, if you apply for business or econ or whatever, and get rejected, put english or something as your secondary major, and, because of tap, it might get your foot in the door.

anyone else have anything to add?

Under my OCC transcript it says “OCC Disqualification.” I guess that’s not a surprise because of my poor performance there. Can I still attend OCC? It’s been nearly two years since I last attended the school.

Appeal for reinstatement: When notified of disqualification, a student will be informed about appeal procedures, through the Counseling Division office.

Any student disqualified from a college within the Coast Community College District may be dismissed for a minimum of one semester. A student dismissed from one district college shall not attend another district college during the semester of disqualification. (Title 5, Section 55756)

So does that mean I can still attend? I should probably call.

I plan on retaking the OCC failed courses at OCC and then heading to Santa Ana College for the remainder of my community college career since it is closer to home. Is this advisable?

I will also add that you may want to consider a non impacted major or one not so impacted at UCLA as BizEcon, many students with 4.0s get rejected so have your hopes in line with your prospects as well. Do not try for BizEcon with out an alternate major via TAP.

Assuming the person applying to UCLA’s bizEcon program has a 4.0, and has completed all their prereqs, and assuming they wrote something for their essays, why on earth would they be rejected (realistically speaking of course)?

bizecon is an impacted major and therefore very competitive. It’s strange that even the top tier students at a CC get rejected with flawless grades, but life is unfair. It’s not a good answer (ha!).

I know a guy who had a 2.9 CUMULATIVE gpa and got accepted to UCSB. I couldn’t believe it.

Freshhhh87 did this guy you knew with a 2.9 get in as a bizecon major or as some other major?

Um guys he doesn’t sign TAP he must complete the honors program at his CCC. TAG is what he can sign for all the other UC’s except UCLA and CAL.

Not all CC’s have honor’s programs. It’s not because they are “bad” or anything, but rather, because they are much smaller than CCs like SMC, OCC, De Anza, Foothil, etc.

3.8 GPA is the average admit for UCLA’s Bizecon program. Assuming one completed all their prereqs, has a 4.0, and wrote something acceptable for their essay, I don’t see why they would be rejected.

Yes you could argue that if everyone got a 4.0, then one could be rejected. However, realistically speaking, this does not happen, especially when the average applicant has a 3.4.

I talked to an online counselor who apparently used to work at UCLA and Berkeley and she said I could simply bury my past by not mentioning it to the new CC I’ll be attending and that it’s not like the UC’s are gonna do a background check on me to see every CC I attended. Is this advice I should take?

probably not.
some applications are reviewed for verification. whatever the number, it’s done at random. let’s say it’s 1 in 6. if you’re chosen for verification, i think it’s reasonable to assume you’ll get caught not having provided all past info, removing you from consideration among all UCs. you can think of it like playing russian roulette for $50,000 with a .357 - 5 in 6 gets you an easier 50 grand than you might otherwise earn, but 1 / 6 will end you.

i’d take that bet ^

Larinaga that online counselor should be FIRED plain and simple.

If you do get caught, do you think you have a leg to stand on by saying that the counselor told you that? who are they going to believe, a student desperate for admission or a counselor?

It sounded a little iffy and dishonest to me. I would much rather have them see a poor academic past and a recent record of straight A’s than not mention my past at all. It could work to my advantage to include my bad grades, anyway. Thank you all for your input. I won’t be listening to her and will include all transcripts.
