<p>the only reason to go to michigan is if its signifcantly cheaper for you (instate tuition or scholarships). otherwise, berkley is better for both business and pre-medicine.</p>

Actually disagree. Haas and Ross is a tie. I would go to Michigan for business though.
I had the pleasure of flying to new york 10 times for super days this semester and it drained so much out of me I had to drop some credits because I didnt even have time to do my assignments/projects and I was tired from flying around constantly. I cant imagine almost double the flight time flying from california for those superdays.</p>
<p>berkley has better fall/winter weather, which can help rejuvenate and keep one sane from those superdays.</p>
<p>dude look, I flew out many times at 7am or 8am for superdays that start at noon and flew back the same night, which already sucks because I would lose the whole day that I could use to work on…well almost anything else.
Imagine being in california, with the 3 hour time difference, in order to get to new york by 10am (need 2 hours to make through crazy NY traffic from airport), you need a flight at 4am, which I dont think exist. That means you have to fly there a day earlier to stay at a hotel, which is an uber waste of time. Even if you could find such a flight that goes from SF -> NY at 4am, you would need to wake up at 2am to get to the airport and check in and crap before you fly out. You would be totally exhausted for your superday plus you will end up having to make up for a night of sleep.
Not to mention having to deal with the time difference…</p>
<p>and one more thing, I dont wear rosy (or is it blue) glasses like some people here. I don’t try to paint an unrealistic nice picture of michigan just because I go to michigan. So if I vouch for Michigan in certain cases, there must be a reason (obviously could be right/wrong depending on your point of view) for me to do so. And in this case, I think there is a legit reason to go to Michigan over berkeley if you want to do business outside of the west coast.</p>
<p>Your UM peers probably won’t be as smart and hardworking as Berkeley students so you’ll have an easier time getting the high gpa you need for med school.</p>

<p>I don’t believe that Cal-Berkley is a much more prestigious school. They are on probably the same level prestige-wise. Both schools, seem to me, to be almost mirror images of each other with Cal just being on the warm, sunny west coast and U of M being part of the frigid midwestern weather. They each have top programs across the board especially in business and medicine. In fact, according to many sources Michigan’s medical program is better than Cal-Berkley’s, however each of these sources ranks based on different criteria. U of M has one advantage no other school has: U of M has the largest alumni base across the world from any university, with close to 500,000 living alumni.</p>
<p>Well if the attractiveness of the student body is even remotely important for you at all, Michigan dominates Berkeley in this category. My sister goes to berkeley, and i haven’t seen a single attractive person in ANY of the pictures on her or her friends’ facebooks. plus, the demographics of both schools are VERRRRRY different. in all honesty, having visited both campuses, Michigan’s is way nicer, not to mention there is a large homeless population within a few blocks of Berkeley. The UC system is in shambles right now (I don’t know how Michigan’s is faring, but it’s horrible out here). I know for my sister, even as a junior, she got waitlisted for 3 of her classes this semester, and only got in after having long talks with the professors. She also accredited the fact that she got in to the classes because she’s a young, blonde female, who my friends tell me “they’d smash” (which I try to ignore haha). However, in terms of academic quality, both are fine institutions, and the area around Berkeley (especially San Francisco) is amazing also. And yea, Michigan’s winters are horrendous, but don’t think for a second that it doesn’t rain a lot in Berkeley - because it does.</p>

<p>A few corrections. First of all, it’s spelled BERKELEY. Secondly, the word you were looking for was definitely, not “defiantly.” Finally, UCB does not have a medical school. Michigan is more well-rounded than Berkeley in this way.</p>

<p>Ok, i will share my own point of view on that problem. My situation is that I was pre-admitted by Ross and also accepted to Cal. actually i am pretty set on business, however, i think in cal you have to go through fierce competition to get into Hass in junior year(hass is two year program). And since Ross and Hass are almost equal in business, so the preferred admission makes a difference. My final choice will be Umichigan.</p>

<p>bizInt is correct. Haas (not Hass) is a two year program which you apply for junior year. You can be admitted to Berkeley as a pre-business major, but anyone can apply as long as they’ve completed the prerequisites. The admit rate is about 50% among Berkeley students to Haas. If you’re already in at Ross, it’s the safer option since Haas is not guaranteed.</p>
<p>Berkeley has been the top public for quite some time. IMHO it is the ONLY public that bests Michigan as an overall quality university academically. Still, the differences are not that great that I would choose one over the other for that reason alone.</p>
