I am a UK national applying to German universities as well as American. I would say my German is advanced/fluent- my only proof is a 6 in IB HL German (grade was moderated down). Overall, my IB score was 38 and I got a 7 in HL Physics, the subject I want to study. However, my college (last 2 years of high school) didn't offer IB Math HL so I had to take A-level Maths in addition to IB Math Studies SL. I got a B in A-level Maths. (Retaking to boost to an A/A*)

I wish to apply for:

Heidelberg
LMU Munich
TU Munich
Freiburg
Göttingen
Tübingen
Maybe Leipzig as an absolute reserve

All of the above listed in order of preference, all for Physics and all apart from Leipzig for Classes taught in German. Does anyone know what the chances of me getting in the unis I have listed are?

I know the application deadlines are in mid July so I'm planning to spend the rest of my gap year in Germany (I have an uncle who lives there), perhaps doing a language course at a Folkshochschule if my 6 in IB HL German B isn't sufficient.

I have been told by German students that unless I'm studying law, medicine, dentistry etc., getting into universities isn't particularly hard although the drop out rate after the first exams is huge (ie. internal selection process). I know this forum is mainly for American exchange students but I'm just curious to read what other people suggest.
