@thecoolboy1234 Okay thank you for your input
@lostaccount Okay thank you and I do understand my GC was just being realistic but when I first heard what she said it was a shock but I do have other safeties and mid range schools on my list.
@amy989, great point of accepted vs attended ACT. I have seen a 1 point spread in almost every instance where it is posted (and it is very few) - so at a top LAC, a median accepted 33, becomes an attended 32, a 32 becomes a 31…
@HollaChalla I do realize I have no chance whatsoever and that my scores are mediocre as well but I never said anywhere that I would be going with my ACT score and I never said anywhere that my school was THE toughest and usually ACT scores don’t reflect how tough school so I have no clue where you came up with the idea that my ACT score shows how tough my school is. It is actually how well the student themselves test not how tough the school is. One of my classmates has a 36 on the ACT and another has a 29 but both are extremely capable and smart people it is just that the two people test differently.
OP, the best you can do is keeping working hard–can you pull up any of your junior year grades to As to nudge up that overall GPA? Make sure you hit the ground running senior year, too. If you can demonstrate a solid upward trend in grades it might give you a shot at NYU. At some of the other hyper competitive schools you mention, it’s less likely to help (they are super reachy for you). That’s a solid ACT, but of course if you can nudge it up, that would be good. Now, importantly, in terms of NYU: can you afford it? Just checking. If you can’t, there’s really no point in applying IMO, as it’s not about getting in or not.
So just focus on finishing big junior year, and also start exploring actual match schools. NYU is a long shot, but not completely impossible (if you nudge up that ACT, and have $$$), but the best thing would be to start emotionally investing in schools that are more likely to accept you. Going to a hyper competitive private will set you in good standing at plenty of places… you’ll just need to show a solid upward trend, IMO, and test scores to off-set your freshman & sophomore years. What’s your UW GPA? Have your grades gone up or down junior year?
@proudterrier My grades have gone up this year and I haven’t seen my grades recently (our school releases a progress report and report card at set times so we can never see our grade throughout the year) I can afford NYU but over the past few days I haven’t really been interested in NYU anymore and I am pretty sure I can raise my ACT up more. I am also thinking about Rhodes which I really like a lot. My uw GPA rn i think is a 3.1 I’m not completely sure.
Take the ACT as many times as you can afford. And could you get your GPA up to at least a 3.6 by the end of the year (if you got straight As)?
@pineapple86 Maybe I’m not sure because our AP Cal BC teacher never lets anyone in her class have an A…
