Do I even have a chance at anything? Please help

Ok so I’m currently a senior and just took my 5th sat and got a score back of 970 which is my highest. Obviously bad to everyone else. My gpa is an 84 unweighted and 83 unweighted. So I’m like way below average. I really have tried all 4 of HighSchool but things never go in my favor so there’s really nothing I can do about it. I feel like every college I’m going to apply to will reject me. My senior year gpa so far is 93 for the first quarter, and after the second quarter maybe I can send out mid year reports? Idk I hope there’s something I can do about it. To majority these schools aren’t even considered a reach and “easy to get into” but those are the kids who don’t know the reality of getting denied, because they were always so smart.
I’m applying to these below so far. I tried looking for schools with a lower than average sat and gpa but I’m way below the lower than average. :frowning:
Suny Cortland

Suny Brockport
Suny Potsdam
Mount Saint Mary
Rowan University
Suny Purchase
Suny Oswego
St. John’s
St. Joseph’s (patchogue NY)
Mercy College (probably the only school that will accept me)

Idk, I just need hope at this point. I want to get into a college thats all. I’m trying so hard not to give up because this lack of hope and sadness is really getting to my head and I’m not sure if it’s worth applying for.

Weighted gpa is 83*
And if any expert on the admission process gives me any help I am so thankful for you. I think my letters of recommendation are good and that my college essay was good also…

Do you live in NY? Then you should stick to applying to in state publics. If you apply to NJ schools or PA schools, I have some suggestions that you would have a reasonable chance of acceptance:
In NJ
1William Paterson University
2. Montclair State University
In PA

  1. East Stroudsburg
  2. West Chester University
  3. Bloomsburg university

try starting with the above lists to find schools in your range, but DON’T take their probability scoring at face value - look up their freshman class profile for better statistics. Statistically, somewhere that admits a slightly higher SAT and slightly lower GPA on average will be realistic, but again, don’t be afraid to shoot high and make sure to include some safeties. Also, your upward trend to a 93 this quarter is encouraging–does that continue to show up last year? Typically, schools will look at an average of your junior and senior year if they notice an upward trend, which can be significantly helpful.

Remember, your admissions chances aren’t entirely determined by your scores, and if you have a compelling reason for a period of bad grades or a learning disability that affects your test-taking ability, be sure to mention that clearly in the “Additional Information” section of your application. They may make allowances for low performance there.

You can definitely do this. Tell your story as best you can, ask teachers for help with writing if necessary, and take a deep breath. Don’t give up!

I think you have a shot at getting into college no matter what. People get into college with way lower GPA’s/SAT’s than what you have–you have a 3.0 UW GPA, which is good. idk how NY state schools work, but at UMass/MA state schools, most people with 3.0’s get in. My friend got admitted to UMass Dartmouth/Amherst (in-state) with a C+ average–and that acceptance rate is around that of your target schools. I think you could get in. Don’t give up yet.

Don’t be afraid to try community college, too. It’s not the lesser option, and if you’ve found that you haven’t been accepted into schools that fit/ones you actually want to go to there’s always community college. That way you have a chance of going to a different school without feeling constrained/upset about your choices. It’s not the lesser option at all and it’s nothing to feel ashamed of if you choose that route.

I don’t know anything about new york schools, but in california minimum gpa admission for our cal state schools is 2.5 so if it’s the same I’m sure you’ll get in somewhere.
