Is there hope for me?

Hi. I am currently in high school, about to become a junior, and have no EC activities under my belt. I DO have a 3.9 GPA so far though.. But my grades are all that are going for me right now.

I was in JCL last semester, but forgot to repay membership for this semester. I SHALL be rejoining for latin 3 and 4 though... Got a gold medal on the National Latin Exam, also.

I was invited into BETA Club a few months ago but I didn't join because I didn't think I would be able to do all the required service hours. I'm not lazy. We only have one car and my granddad has to have it for work all the time. I figure by next year I will have my own car and be able to get myself around, so I will join then if invited.

Not trying to whine, but it just feels like everybody has it easier than me. My grandma doesn't even like to talk about what we're doing next week, let alone college. I feel like I am going to all on my own because nobody in my immediate family has college experience.

Assuming I do well on the ACT and maintain a very high GPA, can I get into a great college with bad EC's?

Thank you.

you have a good chance
wait do you live with your grandparents?
you could put that in your essays

yeah, i do. mom has muscular dystrophy so i live with them. hm, okay.

Lets say you end up with:
3.9 (unweighted)
couple of good AP/IB scores
At least 32 on ACT or 2100 on the SAT I
Several SAT II (700s)

These will cover much of your EC’s absence. (Unless you want to go to HYP schools, they want everything top-notch perfect, its ridiculous)

Why not start doing some ECs? Good Luck

A lot of great public schools don’t care about ECs, or at least don’t care as much about ECs - you can definitely get into lots of great schools if you have good test scores as well. As others said, maybe not top HYPS kind of schools, but you’ll have options, and plenty of them.

I am going to try to do some ECs my junior and senior years… I’ll be in the Latin Club. They do a few service projects and help a local no-kill animal shelter. That’s a start I guess? lol

I’m going to bed now. Thank you to everyone who replied, and I shall check back tomorrow. Night :)

you don’t have to join clubs in your highschool.
use your free time to start a local community project, or organize some activities/explore some interests. maybe that’ll workout better for you, cause you clearly have little passion for what your school has to offer.
being active outside of school usually impresses adcoms more anyway.

Depends on the school. Might be hard getting into the Ivies but definitely not the local state university.
