I’m a NY student, going to be an undergrad at UCSB in the fall. I know there’s an orientation period in August when everyone can register for their classes, but it’s a really inconvenient date for me. Is there a way to register for classes through GOLD? And if I don’t go to orientation does that mean I’ll end up with really crappy teachers/classes? (I’ve logged into GOLD and it says something like 9/2/2016 12:30 PM - 9/7/2016 11:45 PM. Is that when I can start registering for classes online or something?)
Also, on GOLD it says first day of instruction is 9/22/16. Is that when classes start? And should I be on campus like a week or so before then? (I’m dorming)
Sorry, I’m completely clueless and I just want to make sure!
Yes, 9/22/2016 is the day classes start. You’ll get a notification for your dorm move-in time - I think they do it over 2 days on the weekend which would be the 17th and 18th.
There should be orientation sessions from the end of June through August if any of the earlier ones are more convenient for you (I know it’s costly to fly out here). Most freshmen will be signing up for their classes during their orientation session.
There are orientation sessions from June-August, so there aren’t just August dates if your problem is scheduling. However, I believe some dates have filled up.
If you don’t attend, you’ll be able to do some sort of webinar that they send out info for in August. Then you can register for classes on GOLD around September, and you’ll be able to go to an academic advising session right before school starts.
I’m pretty sure move in is September 17-18, but we’ll probably get an email about that eventually.
For now, Google “UCSB orientation;” there is a tab for “alternatives to orientation.”
What major are you? I’ll see you in the fall nevertheless
