I have been playing Magic the gathering since I was like 6 years old (for those of you who don't know, it's a trading card game).

I wrote a pretty strong essay about it reflecting hardwork, dedication, and initiative as well as incorporating some life lessons as well as my interests.

My concern is with the topic itself. Will college admissions officers accept the topic? Is it too esoteric to be understood? I do describe the concept of the game in my essay.. Would I seem too childish? Immature? or worst of all.. not ready for college?

If this is true then the topic should be fine.:)

I feel like colleges may think that I play to much and I will not study enough in college since the topic is about a game for leisure… any other opinions?

Admin officers are likely to ask, ‘what does this essay reveal about this person’s character, and what does this person bring to the class mix?’ Assuming your essay answers these broader questions, then the game is just one way to provide a perspective on who you are. (S wrote his essay using a game at which he was very skilled as an ‘organizing theme.’ It must have worked since he got into his ED choice.) Make sure that the rest of your application - the short essay and the recommendations - focus on other aspects of who you are, so schools get a complete picture.
