Is this a cliche topic?

So, basically for the common app essay I was thinking about submitting an essay about how I was so sure that I was going to win an event at our HS State Champs for swimming, but then I lost and so I learned the perils of arrogance, etc. I also have a little in it about how the following summer I decided to push myself harder so it wouldn't happen again, and how I learned that failure can teach the most important lessons we learn in life.

I think it's written okay, but I was just wondering, is this topic a huge cliche?

There are no cliche topics, just cliche versions of presenting a topic (views on a topic).

But with that said, learning negatives of ignorance and learning from failure are very common in college essays

It sounds pretty cliche to me, to be honest. Writing about how hard you’ve worked to improve as a swimmer in a more original way might be a better choice.
