Is this a good college list? If not, what are some colleges I should add last minute?

able to afford all these colleges

32 ACT (33 superscored), 3.72UW/4.24W, decent ECs with a LOT of comm. service, good essay
Asian, Male, Massachusetts

Reaches:
Tufts University
Boston College
Northeastern University

Matches:
Boston University
Syracuse University
Brandeis University

Safeties:
UCONN
UMass Amherst
UMass Lowell

Majors: finance or engineering.

I’m applying soon but I feel like I should add some more reach/high match colleges or two and remove UMass Lowell.
Thoughts? I’m looking for colleges primarily in the northeast and preferably suburban. What are some suggestions for colleges that would suit me and my list?

Bump, any help would be appreciated :confused:

Have you considered RPI, WPI, Stevens, or RIT?

The University of Rochester is on the edge of a medium-sized city and is solid for your interests. By the standards of your current list, U of R would be a match for you.

I would add Lehigh. Business and engineering are historical strengths and there is also a dual major. The alumni network is first rate. Similarly, Bucknell.

You seem way overqualified for Syracuse.

I think Northeastern is definitely more of a target than a reach for you… I got in EA with similar stats (33 ACT, 3.7 GPA, great ECs and service) and these qualifications are above the average for Northeastern.

I would also say Northeastern us a match for you
Maybe take out 1 of the safties?
For another reach, look into NYU Stern, if you really want to do finance

@dadinator
I don’t really like the atmosphere of WPI/RPI and their gender distributions. But I’ll check them out again, thanks for suggesting. Overall I’m iffy about going to mainly engineering schools because I don’t know if I should do Finance or Engineering.

@merc81
Do you think their finance or engineering program is better?

@TurnerT
Thanks, I’ll check them out. And you think? Good, because I didn’t put much effort into the supplement… I’m just scared because if I don’t get accepted into my top schools (NEU, BC, or TUFTS), where would I actually go?

@itsisha
Congratulations! I’m so jealous of you. I wish I had applied EA, but my SAT score at the time was 2070 and I hadn’t received my ACT scores yet and my essay was pretty bad too. I was browsing the EA/ED threads and there were some high-scorers that got deferred/ few that got rejected, which makes me scared. But, people like you who had similar stats and were accepted give me some hope. I really want to attend there, NEU is my top, top school. I really hope I get in. Congrats to you, though.

BTW, if it helps at all with my chances/school suggestions, my 33 ACT super-scored is a 35E, 36M, 27R, 32S, 35W.

Based on your profile and interests, Lehigh looks perfect for you. It would be the most prestigious in engineering of your choices with a great business school and dual degree to go along. Plus the strength of the Lehigh alumni is legendary. Same for Bucknell. They aren’t easy to get in but you have strong numbers.

Lafayette is also another option, solid all around.

Another thought is Villanova, great business and great undergrad engineering. You have a good demographic for Villanova and I bet you get accepted. The location is also great.

Check if they have supplemental requirements. I am pretty sure Bucknell does not.

@FreaksAndGeeks
Yeah, I think I’m going to take out UMass Lowell. I was thinking about Stern, but the school is so difficult-- I’d probably get rejected. But I’ll research more about it, thanks for suggesting. And thanks for bringing my hopes up about NEU :slight_smile: it is my top school!

Rochester’s strength in terms of your interests may be that the opportunities and resources in both of these areas would be about equal.

@merc81
Thanks, I’ll look more into Rochester!

@TurnerT
Thanks for suggesting Lehigh, after researching a bit more I like them.

Do you guys think it’s too late to send my ACT scores/request transcript and having any new colleges I add receive it on time? Should I just self-report on Common App then?

Self report through common AP before the deadline but go on record with ACT as requesting today.

I think you should be OK for Jan 1 schools. Some schools receive tests scores every two weeks, so its impossible in many cases for them to be received before the deadlines.

Policies may differ, but it’s generally expected that you do everything under your direct control by the application deadline. Beyond that point, schools seem willing to wait for official information to arrive later as long as it is within a reasonable amount of time. By all means, self-report in the interim.

Lastly, another question, are there any schools that would suit me but DON’T require supplements? I still have to finish my other supplements and preferably do not want to add more to the pile, but if not I guess it’s okay.

@TurnerT @merc81
Alright, I’ll self-report my two ACT’s on the common app, thanks for the reassurance.

Google it

But make the request today on the ACT website.

Might look at Holy Cross-academics are similar to Tufts and kids that go there love HC. HC also has great alumni network which helps for job placement-great school.

@TurnerT @merc81

I got a 32 on the October one, and a 31 on the December one. But combined, they superscore to a 33 (32.5).
Common App asks for the highest score and date on each section of the ACT (composite, math, english, reading, science, writing). I put my highest score for all of them (35E-Oct, 36M-Dec, 27R-Oct, 32S-Oct, 35W-Oct), which would come out to a 33.

But for the highest composite, should I be putting a 33, or the 32 from October?

Since it also asks for the date for each of the score, I am guessing I should just put my 32 October, even though the superscore of the scores listed is a 33?

I asked on CC but no one responded and I couldn’t find it on google, I just want to make sure before I press submit.
