So these are the schools I'm definitely applying to
SUNY Binghamton
SUNY Stony Brook
University of Massachusetts Amherst
UConn
Northeastern
Boston University
Fordham and a couple others just bc they're
free
I feel like I'm not applying to enough schools. I'm applying EA to most of those just to get them out of the way
4.1 GPA
32 ACT
decent extracurriculars
Not applying for financial aid and I want to stay in the northeast. I want to go in undeclared.

Anytime anyone mentions college I get panicked idek I'm literally avoiding this and I feel like I'm missing out on good schools and I'm honestly so confused and scared

Are you excited about any of the colleges on your list? What factors lead you to choose the ones you chose? Have you visited any of them? I think you are applying to plenty, but if you aren’t satisfied with your list, if you give some insight into your current choices, like “I really love x about Binghamton, but I wish it had y like UConn and z like BU” then I bet a lot of people would be able to offer you insight into finding appropriate matches. Good luck.

That’s the thing I never thought I had a chance at more selective schools except like northeastern and Binghamton and stuff bc I thought those were my reaches. But my counselor said it wouldn’t hurt to apply to “reach” schools but idk what an appropriate reach school would be for me

There is no need for you to panic during this process. You have done extremely well and tons of wonderful schools will gladly accept you. Schools like Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Tufts, Boston College seem like reasonable reaches/high matches. And for SUNY schools you may also want to consider SUNY Geneseo.

See the thing is I go to a pretty competitive school and every year a couple kids go to ivies and other great schools and while I’m in the top 10%, I haven’t taken that many APs (only 3). My gpa is mostly from getting A’s in honors courses whereas there are kids in my school who have taken like 12 APs. I know my gpa is good but there are kids in my school who have like 4.5+ and they’re the ones who are gonna to those kind of schools and I think I have a serious problem because anytime anyone mentions college I feel like I’m gonna cry
Holy crap I didn’t realize how long this response is…

Asdf, I agree you should add some reaches to your list. If you don’t get in, so what? You still have your solid matches and safeties to fall back on.

Will taking only 3 APs hurt your chances? Probably not. Your grades, scores and rank are very good. This is your foundation. On that you build your essays, recommendations and extracurriculars. The deciding factor are often talents, demographics, life experiences. You might offer something that those 4.5+ classmates don’t.

We can’t tell you what your reaches should be because we don’t know what you want. Add a few to your list, complete the application and send it in. You have nothing to lose by taking a chance.

If you’re right that finances are not a problem, then you could apply ED or SCEA to your dream school. But first you have to visualize your dream.

You are a much better candidate than you think. Do not compare yourself to your peers. The one thing you may have learned from high school is that you do not like cut throat competitive environments, or maybe I’m reading this wrong.

My suggestion is to find a school you like that has either EA or Rolling Admissions. Get yourself an admission before Christmas, maybe even Thanksgiving and you will raise your confidence tremendously. Your numbers are excellent, relax, you will get into a great college FOR YOU!

Omg thank you all so much I really appreciate it!! I still haven’t figured out what I’m going to maybe I’ll apply to those schools for the hell of it and see what happens! Thanks!
