Is this a good combo?

I want to work in trading for a living, and I was wondering if the major combo I was considering is a good plan.

At the moment, I plan on double majoring in Economics and Mathematics. Is this good?

Yes it is. Economics and math are very useful in trading.

Thank you for your answer.

Would you recommend Finance over Economics?

If the economics major is in the liberal arts school then you’re probably better off doing finance in the business school. If both majors are in the business school or if you’re at an ivy then it doesn’t matter. I think a good combo would be a major in finance and a double minor in eco and math. I would only major in math if you intend on attending graduate school in a quantitative subject. You also have to consider that the upper level math courses might unnecessarily bring down your gpa.

“Would you recommend Finance over Economics?”

It’s tough to say, but personally, I would pick finance, for you will be able to move into the corporate finance/IB, etc., if trading won’t work out for you.

Well, my goal is to be one of the guys you see on the floor of the NYSE with the aprons saying “Barclays” and “HSBC”.

How do I get there?
