Thanks. Won't it take time for stable 64-bit based programs to be released? Otherwise you've got lots of 32-bit software running on an operating system that doesn't take advantage of what it can...Pretty much the same time that it will take for a 64-bit OS to be considered worth adopting? Don't ya think its gonna take a while for the entire 64-bit thing to be fully used? Like 2 or 3 or 4 years? How quickly do you think the software creators will take to adapt their software?

That depends

if you use Windows

There is a 64 bit version of XP which will make the general OS faster but still have backwards compatability with 32 bit applications.

you can use that 64 Bit OS to use 64 bit and 32 bit apps, so you can use the 64 bit capability as it arrives.

with these 2 options you have nothing to loose.

I said I use freeBsd which has almost full 64Bit compatability and its blasing fast and solid. This is good for me.

If you were to go the apple route, I highly suspect Apple to release revisions of the macbook and macbook pro series once the release of panther and Core 2 duo.

the apple comminty is not as big as the windows and Applications are for the most part already done. Such as Adobe apps, like Photoshop and the macromedia ones like dreamweaver.

I really do suspect and it would be dumb for them not to make panther 64 bit.

I'd say that if you pay a premium for the 64 bit processors that only run 32-bit software, then you do have something to lose. Why not wait before widespread adoption demands 64 bit software? Are the MS Office apps ready to go in 64 bit mode? Won't there be a time lag before these apps are ready to go in 64 bits? These are the programs most people depend on these days...Although I'm very tempted to switch over to the Open Office/Thunderbird/Firefox camp! And where do I find the 64 bit version of XP. Will it work with the current Core Duo processors or does one need to wait for the Core 2 Duo processors?

I say you have nothing to loose as you can use the 64 bit version of Xp and I guess get a better OS experience.

If you dont go 64Bit then you will never be able to run any 64 bit OS and 64 bit applications.

If you do go 64 Bit then you can run both or choose to run niether, its up to you.

If we wait then this makes programminga and companies alike work slower towrds 64 bit.

Its really up to you and your needs. if you just write papers and use the internet then well you have no reson to wait, if you want performence then i recomend you wait.

I just figured after looking at some coupons on dealcatcher, etc I can get everything and even upgrade my video card for 896 dollars. Should I take it or still wait if the coupons expire in the next month?
