Courseload:
AP Statistics, AP Spanish, AP Literature, AP gov one semester (econ the other semester, no ap option) and Accounting
Does this seem like too much for one year? I only took 2 aps, 2 honors my junior year (calc bc, ap english, physics h, spanish 4h and accounting and us history) so I wanted to take 4 aps next year since I took a bit less this year. I can not choose if I get ap gov this semester or next so I might have 4 aps during college apps. AP Lit is one of the hardest courses in our school, ap stats is okay, and ap gov and spanish are medium.
Also, I’m planning to do economics or statistics or applied math. Is it okay if I do not take a science this year (took bio, chem h, and physics h- struggled and disliked all of them) .
I’m aiming for UCB btw.
Well you already asked and got an answer I think so look at your other thread
Thanks . I just wanted some general feedback on the overall courseload.
I do believe that you have a good amount of courses to take for senior year. 4 AP classes though, that is very impressive. If you are looking into majoring in a science-related field, I would suggest taking a science class. If your counselor allows you to take Econ or Stats or applied math and you think you can handle it, then go ahead! Do what you think feels right. As long as you’re taking classes that will give you enough credits to graduate, you should be fine.
I am currently a senior now and I’m taking 6 classes (AP and honors) and it doesn’t feel like a heavy workload.
I think it’s definitely a good course schedule. I’m a senior (4 APs this year, 12 total) and I got accepted into UCB early notification. I agree with @fashionista99 that your senior courses should reflect your prospective major in college. They look for continuity rather than quantity. If you show improvement throughout your 4 years you should do just fine!
okay, thank you! I’m not planning to major in a science-related field so is it okay if I do not take a science?
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Perhaps @MYOS1634 was being too subtle above (I did not think so, but whatever). Don’t spin this thread into “Should I take a science;” you have a whole thread devoted to that topic and the answers won’t change.
This sounds like too big of a jump to me. My junior year I took two AP’s and three honors and it was very difficult but manageable. For my senior year I decided to take AP Psych and two other honors and trying to manage school with the college search was equally as difficult as taking more rigorous classes last year. The AP Spanish curriculum is not hard whatsoever and I haven’t taken stats but I’ve heard that’s def one of the easier AP’s but I know people who went to hell and back with AP Lit so if you were to drop one it should probably be that one. BTW if you do decide to go with this many classes you should really really write your college essay over the summer and have it done by the start of the year. GOOD LUCK!!!
@anaoyler thanks for your tip! I did take calc bc, aplac, and physics h (along with spanish 4h) last year and they were the harder honors/aps our school offered. So I thought that since ap stats and ap spanish and ap gov is not too hard (ap lit is really hard though) it might balance out if I take 5 classes next year (instead of 6 this year).
AP Literature is actually not hard if you are interested in it and are willing to search for study skills tips and reflect. It is just unfamiliar. Accounting and AP Econ make each other easier, so TRY to take AP Econ before Gov.
Our school doesn’t have ap econ (only regular econ) but I have a good understand of econ from community college courss.
Take micro at the CC if you took macro before then.
Yup, I’m going to! Thanks for your advice.
