Hi you guys I’m a junior in a public school in Wisconsin and I am interested in Notre Dame. I haven’t yet visited to Notre Dame but I am attracted to it because of its great opportunities as far as their prestigious academics and the outstanding connections people say that they have. I would be an undecided business major so Mendoza also really got me looking into it. I also feel that I would really like the campus life because of the successful sports culture and the Catholic aspect.
I am hoping that some CC’ers could give me some advice or if you think that this is a good fit for me? (Including admission chances, I know it is a reach) Are there other schools that you think would be a better fit?
Here is an overview of my stats:
32 ACT
4.0 UW GPA
Have taken the hardest courses that my school offers
Captain of two sports teams (baseball & football)
Student School board representative
FFA member
Student council
NHS member
you won’t know until you go! visit 3-4 times and if the goose pimples don’t go away, you will know you are home!
Take a visit this summer and then read through the admitted students thread to get a feel for how admissions went this year. ND isn’t cheap, so make sure it’s something that works with your budget if you decide to apply. Best of luck!
Obviously nobody’s chances are great when applying to a school this selective, but do you think I’m in a good enough area where I am competitive for Mendoza?
You need to raise your test scores to get in to Mendoza, but I will say that the school values the individual. Make sure to show off your character in your essays. It’s not all about test scores
Here is the class profile for ND. I would try to raise your ACT as your score is in the 25Th percentile. With things as is, I agree that ND is a reach but worth applying. Focus on making any ND specific essay as strong as possible. https://admissions.nd.edu/apply/admission-statistics/
It is great to have a couple of reach schools as long as you have a balanced application list that also includes match and safety schools that appear affordable (run net price calculators). If you like the idea of a Catholic college you may also want to look at some of the excellent Jesuit colleges. You can use this list and find ones that are good academic/geographic fits. Some of these schools have strong basketball programs if you like college sports. http://www.ajcunet.edu/institutions/ If you are willing to travel east maybe look into Villanova and Providence as well.
You have accomplished a lot in HS and no doubt you will find a great college to attend.
No interest in your flagship? They want to keep their high stat kids in state…
I would caution that the admission data cited by @happy1 is from 2017 (the latest available). When we attended the admittted student days, they stated that 11% of the 2017 admission group would not have been admitted in 2018. It will be interesting to see if the “millennial bump” is real or if this will be more of the norm going forward. Best of luck to you in your search. My son is very happy with his choice of Notre Dame.
This really isn’t enough information to say if you’ll fit in or not. I’m a current ND student. Also went to public school in Wisconsin. Admissions is a crapshoot-- even if on paper you should get in, many, many people don’t. Too many qualified people and not enough spots! You need to visit campus and see if you dig the vibe. I suggest doing an overnight visit in the spring if you get in. Feel free to dm me with any specific questions.
