Is this a good idea: go to UCLA for undergrad, and then go to UCSB for graduate?

I got into both UCSB and UCLA and I'm having a hard time deciding.

I want to be at SB because of the beach setting and I like to be outdoors. Ont he other hand UCLA bring a lot more opportunities and I worked hard to get into that school.

I would really like to experience both settings.

would it be a good idea to go UCLA for the next two years and then attend graduate school at Santa Barbara? or is graduate school more important and should focus on getting into UCLA's grad program?

I've never visited either campus.

I would say to do the opposite! The majority of UCLA’s prestige comes from their graduate programs. What’s your major!

my major is psych, however my true passion is film and acting, but I chose psych as my major because my parents want me to get something for my future.

I want to be in LA so I can do the film and acting on my own and on the side next to my “serious” field of study at UCLA.

It’s such a tough choice.

If you’re 100% sure you’re going to grad school, it doesn’t matter where you do undergrad (within reason). It’s better to have your name brand school for your masters.

If you’re passionate about film/acting go to UCLA, you’ll be in the thick of it. Then you can hang out with some film/theater folk and at least get some exposure. You can go to grad school at the same place as your undergrad, despite what you may hear.

V Backup plans are for suckers. Go for broke! You already got into UCLA – who knows what you might achieve?

@Nick_Scheu - to tell you the truth I really don’t want to go to grad school. I don’t see myself do all that work. I want to do the film stuff, but I have to be realistic and have back up plan as well.

@phobot - yeah, that’s why I chose UCLA in the first place. so I could be right there where the film industry is located. If I go to UCSB then I won’t be able to learn how things work since the E.I. is in LA.

Then it looks like you have your answer. Congrats!

@phobot

lol yeah

you know what i’m gonna do instead? go to UCLA, be successful and then buy a house in Santa Barbara.

^Lawl. Oh good. As an arts major I won’t be able to afford it, so it’s good to know I’ll have a friend whose place I can crash at. ;)

What is with all these people who are obsessed with the location of UCSB? First there was a thread of a guy who is thinking of chosing ucsb over ucla…and now this? UCSB is pretty average when it comes to location. Its nothing different than any other beach town. And as a matter of fact the beach at SB isnt even that great. Its all murky and filled with sea weed and junk. And its only nice in the summer…which you won’t even be at the school anyways. The rest of the time its quite foggy and gray.

BA in psych with a minor in film from UCLA
=)

You haven’t even started attending a UC for undergrad and you’re trying to decide on graduate schools you haven’t even gotten into yet? Please…

our time is so limited!! so when need to start planning ahead and start right away, especially at UCLA
