Is this a good PSAT score?

I'm a high school junior and I just got my PSAT scores today. It's out of 240 versus 2400 so I know the whole add-a-zero-at-the-end thing.

I scored a 60 (600) in Critical Reading, 61 (610) in Math, and a 70 (700) on Writing. That gives me a 191 (1910) total. This is my first time every taking the PSAT, and I haven't ever done any kind of SAT prep before. Most of my classmates (and I'm in all honors classes) scored in the 150(0) and 160(0) range.

My dream schools as of now are NYU and Boston College. Obviously I'll work to improve my score for when I take the real SAT, but is this a good place to be right now?

Not bad at all, but can use some improvement. If you look at NYU’s and BC’s 25th-75th percentiles, scores are generally in the 620-730 range. My PSAT score was about the same as yours and I scored 2070 without too much additional prep, so you can do the same (or better).

Definitely a good score if that is without any sort of prep. Just do a lot of practice tests and you will easily score 2100+ on the real SAT :)
