So as the title suggests, I want to find out from some of you current Brown students what you think of this schedule. As you guys have already been through this process, it would be great if you could provide me with some insight into my choice of courses:

Math 0170 (I took IB Math HL, but have no experience with Series / Sequences)

Econ 1110 (I guess this would be next after 0110? Would one have to choose between micro and macro?)

APMA 1650

ENGN 0090 / A creative writing course?

Thanks to anyone who can provide me with any help!

Math 0170 would be fine, though mostly review. This likely wouldn’t hurt in your first semester, especially given the reputation APMA1650 has gained. You might want to shop 18, 20, and/or 35 as well, since sequences and series aren’t necessarily needed in the math sequence.

Econ 1110 is the course that generally comes after 0110, though you’re right in that you could take 1210 (Macro) instead.

APMA1650 will be fine for you, though you’ll likely need to get an override, depending on how they decide to give you credit on your transcript for calc (and when they do - IB credit is not automatic in the same way AP credit is). It’s gotten the reputation of a tough course lately, but it’s with a different professor than normal. Still, I wouldn’t underestimate it - the worst that happens is you’re pleasantly surprised to find it easy.

I don’t know much about ENGN0090 (except how popular it is) or the creative writing courses, though.

Overall, it looks reasonable and certainly not overwhelming, which should give you the opportunity to adjust, join groups, make friends, etc.

APMA 165 deals a little with multivariable (specifically multiple integrals), but nothing you can’t read up by yourself in 10 minutes.

Looks like a very reasonable schedule, with one potential issue: you will have no small and/or discussion-based classes. Is that something you’re fine with?
