<p>Since she was 19 (and so, obviously, as long as I have known her) my mother has been a paraplegic. Would this be seen as playing the pity card too heavily if I chose this for my college essay admission topic? I'm applying all over the place, USC, Columbia, Barnard, UC Berkeley, UCLA, NYU, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, and American. I know that it's supposed to be personal, and this is a very personal thing for me, I'm not just trying to write a tearjerker. I just thought it would be a fairly unique essay topic, and something that I can write in depth and with feeling on.
