You're allowed to use whatever program you want. It's not cheating, but I think it's unfair to some extent. But whatever.

Yeah I think ur Allowed To use Programs, SInce ur allowed to do so on AP exams, Besides that our Teacher always used to tell us to make programs FoR formulas (Quad Formula, Etc) And Store Them on our calculator to save time, and She even told us to that for the SAT, And MY teacher knowS Alot About Standerdized tests So i m guessin she knows wat shes talking abuot

not cheating

Well, that settles it then meow ;). I agree w/ rocker, there is no clearly defined answer to this question, so do what you want. Someone could call the cb and ask for apolicy, but that might be a bad idea since they might say no calculators (nooooooo!). I still hate the moralistic arguments; you're not a dirty cheater if you use programs, and you are not going to hell (for that reason, at least).

Also, keep in mind that it's one thing to know the math and to use programs for efficiency, and it's another thing to use programs to replace general knowledge. When you think about it, how many people that hate math do math subject tests?

It may be cheating, but more importantly, will you get caught? The answer is almost always no. Although they proctors must check that you dont have a qwerty calculator, they will never actually delve into your calculator searching to see if you have the equations. So yes, it technically is cheating, but you wont get caught so whatever. All i can say is i wouldnt do it though; just memorize the equations, youll do better that way.

Earth-shattering information. I was about to go to bed at an obscenely late hour last night, but then it occurred to me that I forgot to look into my Blue Book for all the subject tests about the whole calculator-fiasco. Here's what it says on the last point of page 134:

You may not use your calculator for sharing or exchanging, or removing part of a test book or any notes relating to the test from the test room. such action may be grounds for dismissal and/or cancellation of scores. You do not have to clear your calculator's memory before or after taking the test.

That basically settles it. You are allowed to use programs, since you do not need to clear your calculator's memory.

rockermcr,

smackdown raw! that settles it! good work...i can't believe we all argued over something that appeared to be (apparently) frivolous.

so there you have it. it's not cheating. cool.

not cheating obviously

I've never had them ask me to clear my calculator. i mean...you aren't hurting anyone if you have them in there...
